Aside of bringing your bucket and spade for the beach at Crawfordsburn Country Park, why not look out those old tools and recycle with a positive purpose on Sunday 3 and Monday 4 June (11am to 5pm). That’s when the LifestyleGreen 2012 event will be asking visitors to support the recycle, repurpose and reused campaign for ailing tools and skip-destined sewing machines!
That carpentry tool, the small machine tools that has seen better days and the knitting machine in the garage still have repurpose value in the skilled hands of the team from Tools For Solidarity.
They will be in attendance to recycle your unwanted tools that are destined for the people of developing nations whose crop yields will genuinely benefit from the usage of proper implements.
Stephen Woods from the charity said:
“We send out all sorts of carpentry, building, metalworking, shoemaking, plumbing, blacksmithing and mechanics tools. We also collect knitting machines and small pieces of machinery such as lathes
and table saws.”
When you are at the event don’t forget to enter the Power NI eco-friendly pond package promotion that will bring a little light and life into your garden this summer?
The free to enter competition is open to visitors at this year’s event and is backed by LifestyleGreen sponsor, Power NI who have teamed up with leading Belfast aquatic centre, Exotic Aquatics to offer a pond package worth £500. This includes a top of the range Oase eco-friendly pond pump and a voucher for introductory pond plants and fish.
Event charity, Age NI will bring an eclectic mix of vintage clothing and accessories to the event with other selected household items. Charity shops have changed dramatically over the years and now feature on the hit list for eager consumers with a conscience, while giving something back.
Ballymena-based Age NI Shop Manager and Vintage Co-ordinator, Margaret Agnew explains:
“The Ballymena Age NI shop is essentially the vintage hub for Northern Ireland and we are always looking for pieces which evoke the nostalgia of yesteryear. In addition to vintage wear, all of our shops urgently need your unwanted goods which will refill rails and shelves and help Age NI to continue to improve the lives of older people in Northern Ireland.”
“We urgently need books, boots and shoes, CDs and DVDs, clothes, household items, gifts, jewellery and accessories as well as ornaments and toys. Most items, even those past their best may be recycled off site. The only items we don’t receive are larger items of furniture and electronic goods.”
Age NI is appealing to visitors to bring unwanted items to LifestyleGreen where they will be gratefully received by Margaret and her team.
Aside of being free to visit with free parking there is also a free make and take craft for every child, based on a recycled theme of bees and butterflies from Blue Frog crafts; the chance to try your hand at recycled newspaper dinosaurs, a free sapling for every visitor from Forest Service; a free recycled card pot for planting seeds from NIEA other free to enter competitions include two natural health rose
oil-based aromatherapy hampers and a draw for one allotment for 17 months from July 2012 worth £315 from Ards Allotments, Newtownards.
Added to all of this, a number of exhibitors will provide impromptu demonstrations from their stands. David Orr from David Orr Metal Craft will demonstrate how he mends and breathes new life into old gates and all manner of metal objects from old garden benches to more contemporary pieces.
Crawfordsburn-based, Pinewood Pottery will bring a potters' wheel to the event and show just how they create the beautiful pottery on sale. While exhibitors ‘The Melting Pot’ will show how to make your own candles.
